i set up my mobile Pro Tools rig tonight, just a simple pre-amp, the computer and a nice mic over my parents' Wurlitzer that they bought for me and my sisters to play when we were young. my older sister and i had played an upright for years when they bought this. i remember first running my fingers over the keys. it is such a beautiful instrument.
they are going to sell it. at least that's what they tell me every time i'm here. "make sure to play it! when you come back, it might not be here!"
i'm only home every few months to play it and it really doesn't get much use. it's slightly out of tune right now, but not bad. it just rings a little. i have to admit that my recording style is more of just "try it and see if it sounds good to my ears". so far, that has worked. the piano sounded nice tonight. i played for about 2 hours, 2 songs. one i just wrote when i got back a few weeks ago and one i wrote many months ago, but haven't finished yet.
it's nice to have the basic ideas out of my head. when i listen to them over and over now, i can stop thinking about the structure and start letting the built up orchestrations in my head out.
i just wish i knew more about the piano.
