about every six months or so, a Market Research firm calls me and asks me to participate with my opinions on a wide variety of things.
Today, i spent 2 hours, i'm not joking, talking about my preferences and opinions about the design, quality, quilting and packaging of a certain toilet paper. and i was paid for my time and opinions and in about 5 minutes, i'm going to close up the computer and head out to another hour long one. I'm lucky to be able to get 2 in one day. they don't pay a living wage, but it's a little extra cash to put towards paying off the leftover debt from the production of the latest ellen cherry cd.
and even though my first inclination was to go shoe shopping, instead, i plunked myself down in a cafe, had lunch and listened to the conversations all around me.
this is a rare thing, but i want to do it more often--get out into the world and eavesdrop. or just listen. usually, when i eat alone, i bring a book or something to entertain myself. this time, i just sat and listened. it was fun.
