see it twice

I'm still thinking about this movie, Once. I think you should go see it. It was done simply, although I've been involved in film making and know that even the smallest projects take a lot of time to complete. I think what I mean is that the movie is approachable. It feels like a home video about 2 people coming together once to create something magical. When I first saw it, I just absorbed the story and the music, but there are underlying messages that become apparent when you think about the film later. My opinion is that this movie is not about love or even music, specifically, but about the process of creation. Most specifically, the creation of art. It is still somewhat of a mystery how art is created. It is not a mystery that has been revealed by science. At least in my experience, there is no pattern for how a song arrives or is written. Each song is different and is born differently. My mother asked me years ago how I wrote a song. I couldn't explain it to her. It seemed almost as if the song had always been and I just finally got to a point where I was finally ready to hear it. Once helps illuminate just the tiniest fraction of this process. The great thing about this movie is that mystery isn't totally revealed. We still don't know just exactly how these ideas come about and we are still able to revel in new, great songs and music and let them wash the dirt and grime of daily life off of us.
