earning cash for music in Frederick, MD, on a sultry July 7. i was lucky and made dough and also got some holiday shopping done way early at the Baltic amber store I played in front of.
i grew this tomato in a pot in my backyard. i think this is the first thing that i have eaten that i have ever grown. it was sweet and delicious and tasted, of course, better than store bought. although it made a lovely sandwich, i was sad that it has taken me 32 years to know that feeling......of actually being of the earth rather than just on it.
Zoey likes to sit outside in the hot, hot sun and get stoned on UV rays. I cannot coax her back inside, even on sweltering afternoons and must go pick up her limp body and bring her back into the shade of the basement. silly dog. but i don't believe there's a better life than a well-loved domestic pet. after her sunning, she passes out on a soft couch right near the air conditioning vent.
I don't sleep well in the summer. It's too bright, it's too hot...then it's too cold in air conditioning. Last night, I had an outside gig in Germantown. I opened for "Upton Sinclair" at the Chatauqua Festival. The sticky weather reminded me of New Orleans. I even said that several times in conversation. For the first time in weeks, maybe months, I went to bed last night before midnight. I woke up hoping to feel refreshed, but was not. I did get enough sleep, but had dreams all night long about people I used to know. People I used to live with. Some of the dream was in a city like New York. I don't like that my brain can work over time like this while I innocently try to rest. bastard.
