On Friday night, no gig....so I had a chance to watch another flick on my long list to see, Into the Wild. Actually, I broke this one up over 2 nights, it's pretty long. I've been a long time fan of Jon Krakauer's writing and remember the "character" of Chris McCandless being less cocky in the book than he was portrayed in the flick. Also, I remember not feeling as much empathy for him after reading the book. It seemed he was woefully underprepared for such a stay in the wildnerness, but after the flick...maybe it was watching an actor portraying the person--i felt sad that the river had swollen and that he got himself sort of trapped there and then making the deadly mistake of eating something that would cause him to starve to death.
Again, the score is what stood out most about the flick. Good stuff from Michael Brook and vocal work by Eddie Vedder. In fact, it's the first time in a long time that I've wanted to listen to Eddie Vedder. Why does that happen? I had a strong love affair with that voice when I was also wearing flannel, black army boots and shaving the back of my head........i suppose everything changes.
My friend Andi recently said to me "the people who are the happiest understand that life is about change." I have thought on this alot.

I still get chills when I remember what I read within "Under the Banner of Heaven."
