the sickness: The Cure

last Friday, RED (uber fan extraordinaire) invited me and #1BB to partake of his bad a** tickets to The Cure. I've liked alot of Cure songs (although I'm fairly ambivalent about "Just Like Heaven" as I played it 2 nights in a row, every six weeks, exactly the same, for 3 years.) Anyway, I'm not a super-fan, but it was really interesting. It was a nice-sized venue, not huge with overwhelming crowds (a recent phobia that's getting worse and worse for me.) The stage was sparkly, but the bass was mixed too loud for my taste and there was a huge distance between us and the performers--not physical distance, but Robert Smith typically doesn't tell charming stories and engage the audience. I felt like we were being played at. But what did I expect? It's a concert venue, not a small club. All in all, it was a nice opportunity to wear some thick eyeliner. Thanks RED, as usual, you rock.

Working on the August tour I'm taking with Grimmsy up to Portland, ME, and back. Also, preparing myself for my summer job as a camp counselor (i'll be the theater director for a children's camp for 6 weeks). Had two interesting gigs last weekend--full band Artomatic, which I personally thought we rocked. Sunday was at SMAF, which was disappointing. I played well, I thought, but attendance was wispy--it wasn't even "light," it was practially non-existent. Disappointing for the amount of effort I put into at least including it on my sites and newsletter--they didn't even bother to promote us. I don't know if I would do it again.

Other than that, I'm doing what most musicians do these days--trolling the 'net for gigs and venues and outlets to put the music into and worrying about how I'm going to afford the gas to get out to Wisconsin.

Also, coming soon: ellen cherry COMPLETELY sells out with an online yard sale. Respeck.
